Its been 3 longs months since I have shared a post in my blog.. I am just back after successfully completing my training at Mphasis Learning Academy. Let me start by sharing about this new facebook feature !!

Washington: Facebook begins rolling out its newest feature “Timeline” from today, a move that observers say will not only profoundly alter how its 800 million users interact with the site, but will keep them coming back for decades to come.

The “Timeline,” revealed last week by chief executive Mark Zuckerberg will also likely shock some users, notorious for backlashes in recent years over even small adjustments to the site, let alone a complete re-think of how their lives are presented to the world.

The changes amount to the “heart of your Facebook experience, completely rethought from the ground up,” Zuckerberg told an annual developers conference.

Rick Marini, CEO of the Facebook-focused “career network” BranchOut, which itself boasts millions of users, marveled this week in a conference call with marketers and reporters how the site had managed to build an enduring model.

“If your Timeline becomes an important part of your life — the diary of your life — Facebook may have just locked people in for the next 20 years,” Marini said Wednesday.

If Facebook is “where all of this happens, all your pictures, all your video, everything you’ve ever done,” he added: “you’re never going to leave.”

Zuckerberg said his team’s main aim was “to design a place that feels like your home,” prompting Forrester analyst Sean Corcoran to note that Facebook was “positioning itself as not just your social graph online, but your life online.”

Pete Cashmore, founder of influential tech blog Mashable, this week anticipated the expected response from users in an article for CNN.com under the blunt headline, “You’ll freak when you see the new Facebook.”

The move, Cashmore said, would be likely jarring at first for millions of people who visit the site every day.

But when they see their lives laid out before them in a neat, single page, they will realize Facebook has “unleashed something so remarkable that you didn’t even recognize it at first: A meaningful social network,” he wrote.

Observers saw a clear challenge to ubiquitous search giant Google, as 27-year-old Zuckerberg explained that the site he launched from his Harvard dormitory room in 2004 sought to be a central hub for the Internet.

The overhauled “Timeline” profile pages, as users will see as it opens up to the world Friday, with access further expanded in coming weeks, shows that the social network behemoth has saved everything that’s ever been uploaded.

Google Unleashes First Wave of Google+ Invites

Google+, the search giant’s answer to Facebook, is currently in a “limited field test.” However, it looks like Google has opened the floodgates to the masses.

The Google+ project is the company’s social initiative that brings friend streams, group video chat and group texting to Google’s millions of users. Check out our review of Google+ if you want to learn more.

For the past few days, Google+ invites have not been available to the public, but apparently Google is prepared to test the service with a larger group. Google+ users will find a button that allows them to invite their friends on the Google+ Stream page. Invites are also available if a Google+ user shares content with a non-user via email.

Google+ invites are in high demand. I sent just one tweet and posted one update on Facebook, and I have received more than 100 requests for invites. Request for Google+ invites are flooding Twitter.

HP's flexible displays

In a joint effort between HP and the Flexible Display Center of Arizona State Unversity, they have managed to create a new kind of flexible display which is flexible, unbreakable and most of all affordable.

Using a a production method called Self-Aligned Imprint Lithography (SAIL), these displays can be mass manufactured in the form of rolls instead of sheets, which manages to make the production method more cost effective.

The displays are flexible enough to be “rolled, folded like a newspaper, or bent to fit around a building or car”, not only that they are more environment friendly, as these displays use 90% less material than the displays today. As Carl Taussig, director, Information Surfaces, HP Labs says, “In addition to providing a lower-cost process, SAIL technology represents a more sustainable, environmentally sensitive approach to producing electronic displays.”

They hope to have prototypes of full color flexible displays in as little as three years.

Nokia Windows 7 Phone - Live Cubes concept

Windows Phone 7 Concept UI for Nokia Relies on Cubes, Looks Brilliant:

How about an interface concept for a change? What you can see below is the Mynokiablog.com quoted. Well, he made a custom version of Windows Phone 7 for Nokia devices, keeping the basics of the Metro UI, but adding that tiny extra that missed – another dimension.

Tiles were direct Cubes Live with equatorial 4 pages to go, each with an option for the main tile available. Peter is also considering secondary tiles, showing new strength Master Cube and occupy two seats instead of one, or perhaps even more, as shown below. There is an arrow pointing to more details on the main pane. more images after the break...

And finally, something I thought was really ingenious: a long press on a Live Cube turns the other cubes around it into additional features for the one you pressed. For example, holding the Internet Explorer Mobile pressed reveals cubes around it with bookmarks, pages you visited and other such options. The same probably goes for Zune and your playlists.

This doesn’t change the Metro UI look, but its functionality, so it’s brilliant.

‘India Against Corruption’ Launches Twitter App

To inspire an online movement, you need people to help spread your message. The brains behind ‘India Against Corruption‘ understand this well, and they have introduced a Twitter application yesterday to help spread words even farther.

The Twitter application does only one thing: It automatically retweets selected tweets and Facebook updates from ‘India Against Corruption’ through your Twitter . In other words, you need to place full faith and trust in the ‘India Against Corruption’ team to use the app.

It is a pretty creative way to garner support and spread words though. Within a day, the app has attracted more than 100 users and helped the movement reach more than 14,000 people.

In case you missed our previous report, India is now going through a period of struggle as the nation fights against corruption. The movement was inspired by Anna Hazare’s ‘Fast Unto Death’ campaign in April. Hazare only stopped his fast when the government agreed to work on the Jan Lopak bill, which promises to eradicate corruption.

But nothing much has been changed since then. Pressure keeps building up on the government as Swami Ramdev, India’s most famous yoga guru, went on a hunger strike yesterday calling on his supporters to join him. It was also predicted that a whopping 10 million people will join Ramdev’s protest, according to Reuters.

In addition to this Twitter app, the team also has a technology page which provides users with plenty of options to get involved, ranging from a Facebook app to browser app to help the movement.

Mornings are a mad-cap time in many households. Everyone’s so focused on getting out the door that you can easily lose track of just how much time is passing. I’ve had hundreds of people keep time logs for me over the past few years (you can see some of mine here andhere), and I’m always amazed to see gaps of 90 minutes or more between when people wake up and when they start the commute or school car pool.

That would be fine if the time was used intentionally, but often it isn’t.

The most productive people, however, realize that 90 minutes, 120 minutes or more is a long time to lose track of on a busy weekday. If you feel like you don’t have time for personal priorities later in the day, why not try using your mornings? Streamline breakfast, personal care and kid routines. Then you can use 30-60 minutes to try one of four things:

1. Play, read, or talk with your kids. Mornings can be great quality time, especially if you have little kids who go to bed soon after you get home at night, but wake up at the crack of dawn. Set an alarm on your watch, put away the iPhone, and spend a relaxed half an hour reading stories or doing art projects. If you have older children, aim for a leisurely family breakfast. Everyone talks through their plans for the day and what’s going on in their lives. If family dinners aren’t a regular thing in your house, this is a great substitute.

2. Exercise. You shower in the morning anyway, so why not get sweaty first? Trade off mornings with your partner on who goes out and runs and who stays home with the kids. Or, if your kids are older (or you don’t have any) work out together and make it a very healthy morning date.

3. Indulge your creative side. Lots of people would like to resurrect a creative hobby like painting, photography, scrapbooking, writing, even practicing an instrument. What if you went to bed a little earlier three times a week? Skip that last TV show or those last emails and get up a little earlier the next morning to put in some time at your easel before the day gets away from you.

4. Think. Strategic thinking time is incredibly important for seizing control of our lives. Spend 30 minutes in the morning pondering what you want to do with your time. You could also use this time to pray or read religious literature, to meditate or write in a journal. All of these will help you start the day in a much better place than if everyone’s running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
